Vermicompost as a livelihood
The Rural Entrepreneurship & Vermicompost Training Development Programme is a proposed livelihood initiative by OSIA to empower rural youth with practical skills in vermicompost production, organic waste management, entrepreneurship, and local market development.
The project will train young people to convert locally available biodegradable waste and animal dung into useful organic manure using earthworms. Participants will learn production techniques, quality management, packaging, costing, marketing, and basic business management.
The programme aims to help participants establish small vermicompost enterprises, develop collective production units, create local employment opportunities, and support farmers in adopting sustainable agricultural practices.

Through technical training, entrepreneurship mentoring and market linkages, OSIA aims to create a replicable village-level livelihood model.
The pilot will generate evidence about training effectiveness, enterprise feasibility, market demand and income opportunities before any expansion to additional villages.
